At UF, You Can Expect a Supportive Network

UF provides numerous programs and support for enrolling or enrolled minority students. These volunteer programs pair a first-year African-American or Hispanic student with a professional mentor and a junior or senior-level peer to ensure that first-year students have a nurturing, successful and enjoyable experience at UF.

  • University Minority Mentor Program (UMMP)
Provides faculty and staff mentors to first year minority and first-generation college students. Mentors support, nurture, guide and advise students as they adjust to college life.
  • OASIS
As part of the University of Florida's effort to enhance the awareness and appreciation of diversity among students, faculty and administrators at the university, the Office for Academic Support and Institutional Services (OASIS) coordinates the university's support services for first generation and/or underrepresented (including Hispanic, African American, Asian American and Native American) students and underrepresented faculty.
  • STEP-UP (Successful Transition through Enhanced Preparation for Undergraduate Programs)
A program designed to promote academic and personal success among minority freshman engineering students.
  • Honors Program
Students chosen for participation must have a 4.0 weighted GPA and 1400 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the new SAT or a composite score of 33 on the ACT. Small, interactive and challenging classes with acclaimed professors are benefits of this program.
  • AIM
Yearlong, academics-based program for students with good grade point averages and lower-than-average test results. The Office of Admissions selects students for participation, and students may attend UF in the Summer B term. Academic advisers, small class size and summer acclimation to college are benefits of this program.
