UF provides numerous programs and support for enrolling or enrolled minority students. These volunteer programs pair a first-year African-American or Hispanic student with a professional mentor and a junior or senior-level peer to ensure that first-year students have a nurturing, successful and enjoyable experience at UF.
- University Minority Mentor Program (UMMP)
Provides faculty mentors to new African-American and Hispanic/Latino freshmen. Mentors support, nurture, guide and advise students as they adjust to college life. - PAACT
A proven transition program for incoming African-American students designed to minimize obstacles and to increase retention and graduation rates. - Cycles of Success Program
Program to monitor the first-year success of students in the National Achievement, Partner School Opportunity Alliance, Platinum, Gold and Presidential scholarship programs. This program offers academic and social events to foster continued high academic performance. - STEP-UP
(Successful Transition through Enhanced Preparation for Undergraduate Programs)
A program designed to promote academic and personal success among minority freshman engineering students. - Honors Program
Students chosen for participation must have a 4.0 weighted GPA and 1400 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the new SAT or a composite score of 33 on the ACT. Small, interactive and challenging classes with acclaimed professors are benefits of this program. - Minority Recruitment and Retention Services (MRRS)
UF's Office of Admissions and the Academic Advising Center work with high school counselors and community college advisers to recruit and retain students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. MRRS provides academic support services for more than 3,000 minority students and minority faculty in UF's largest college. - Minority Ambassadors Program
Highly respected volunteer group of scholarship students and UF leaders committed to and working toward increasing the number of qualified minority students at UF. - Outreach Ambassadors
A subcommittee of minority ambassadors who visit hometown high schools during breaks from UF. - AIM
Yearlong, academics-based program for students with good grade point averages and lower-than-average test results. The Office of Admissions selects students for participation, and students may attend UF in the Summer B term. Academic advisers, small class size and summer acclimation to college are benefits of this program.
