It has been more than a month since the University of Florida released its freshmen decisions, and our office has been swamped–pun intended–with phone calls, emails, walk-in appointments, tours and events around the state and country for admitted students. This time of year can get hectic for the Office of Admissions and other campus departments. This is also true for admitted students and their families. For this week’s blog post, we are providing a one stop for information and resources to help admitted students and their families navigate before confirmation day on May 1st.

A UFID is an 8-digit identification number assigned to every UF student. We highly recommend taking time to memorize it, as students will need this number throughout their time here at UF. As an identification number, students should not openly share their UFID with others and should treat their UFID as they would their SSN. Using a UFID, students will be able to create a Gatorlink account which becomes the student’s username and email address to access most of UF systems.

If you do not know your UFID – You may locate your UFID by clicking on the inverted arrow next to your name on your application status page. Please log in using your Coalition user name and password.

If you do not have a Gatorlink account – A few days after students were admitted, they received an automated email that prompted them to create their Gator digital identity. If you need a new GatorLink Invitation, click this link or visit Identity Services.

Financial Aid and other State-sponsored Scholarships

On Friday, March 16, UF’s Student Financial Affairs notified admitted students and their parents that 2018-2019 Financial Aid Award Notifications were available. The released award letter only includes confirmed awards. Most state-sponsored awards, like Bright Futures (BF), do not get confirmed until the summer. Incoming freshmen who believe they have qualified for either the Florida Academic or the Florida Medallion Bright Futures awards that are not showing on the 2018-19 award summary should send this information to, and the award will be added to their award files. NOTE that the final determination of BF eligibility is made by the Florida Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA).

Housing – On-Campus and Off-Campus

On Campus – If students plan to live on campus, they need to submit a housing application and a $25 non-refundable fee as soon as possible. The Housing Application secures a student’s placement in line for room selection. UF Housing began sending out housing contracts the weeks following decision day.  Students who have not yet submitted an application may have limited options for campus housing, as on-campus housing is not guaranteed for incoming students. Once students receives their contracts, they need to submit their housing contracts and advanced rent payments by their due date to guarantee housing space. All housing assignments will begin in May for incoming students. Students will be assigned by a housing staff member in order of application date and according to student preferences.

Off-Campus – The Office of Off Campus Life can assist students with finding a range of housing options in Gainesville. With less than 20 percent of our student body residing on campus, the Office of Off Campus Life has provided a Gator Guide to Off Campus Life for students (including PaCE) interested in living off-campus. This guide includes information on budgeting, leases, finding the right place to live, city codes, transportation, tenant rights and responsibilities, neighbor rights and responsibilities, meal memberships on campus, how to get involved on campus, fun things to do off campus and much more.
