Our Decision Process

Applicants who have submitted a complete application and all supporting materials by the required deadlines will receive an admissions decision. UF releases decisions on the last Friday in February for our priority round applicants and on the last Friday in March for our space-available applicants. You can view your decision after logging in to your MyAdmissions portal by clicking the Check Status button below.

At UF...

we employ a comprehensive review process that evaluates academic and nonacademic criteria. When we review an application, we are considering a candidate's chance of success at UF based on what the student has accomplished within distinct opportunities and challenges. The admissions review process tries to balance the subjective and objective components of the application. The university recognizes that there is great variation among applicants' personal circumstances, home communities and high schools, including schools' course offerings and grading practices. Admission officers can exercise flexibility and professional judgment in their reviews and decisions, but they also must apply consistent standards.

Our Holistic Review is Guided By:

  • Secondary School Academic Performance: UF calculates a core, weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale as part of the evaluation process. Dual-enrollment courses in core areas and any AP, IB or AICE classes receive an extra 1.0 credit weight, meaning that an A is worth a 5.0 on a 4.0 scale. Pre-AICE, pre-AP, pre-IB and Honors classes receive a 0.5 credit weight, meaning that an A is worth a 4.5 on a 4.0 scale. Beyond this GPA calculation alone, UF evaluates strength of the curriculum the student has taken based on the offerings available to the student as well as how the student has progressed academically over time.
  • SAT or ACT scores.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Consistent involvement throughout high school that demonstrates a student's interests and passions, as well as how applicants contributed to their school, community and/or family.
  • The quality of thought in the admission essay.
  • Personal Background and Experiences: We search for students who show the potential and desire to succeed in a rigorous academic environment. After all, they will be UF's future community of learners, leaders and thinkers.
  • No one single factor determines an admissions decision.
