How do I apply for Early Decision?
To apply for Early Decision, indicate "Early Decision" as your preferred application plan in your application. Your UF application must be submitted through the Common App by October 15, 2026.
Who is eligible to apply for Early Decision?
All students applying to UF's main campus are eligible to apply for Early Decision. Early Decision is not available for UF Online applicants.
Am I the right fit for Early Decision?
Early Decision may be most ideal for a student who knows UF is their first choice and will commit to enroll if admitted. Students should always consult with their families and high school counselors to determine the best fit.
Will UF's Early Decision admission option be binding or non-binding?
UF's Early Decision option is binding. The Common App process requires an agreement signed by the student, parent and high school guidance counselor to acknowledge the binding nature and expectations of this admissions option.
Will the incoming freshman class be filled by Early Decision applicants?
No. The incoming freshman class will include applicants from all admissions options (Early Decision, Early Action and Regular Decision).
Can I apply Early Decision to multiple institutions?
No. UF participates in the single-choice binding Early Decision admissions process. We recommend you thoroughly review the Common App requirements for applying Early Decision before submitting your application.
When will Early Decision applicants receive an admissions decision?
Students who have a completed application for Early Decision will receive their admissions decision by December 11, 2026.
What are the decision outcomes for Early Decision?
Admissions decisions for Early Decision are as follows:
- Admit: A notice of admission for the Fall or Summer term.
- Defer: Your application will be re-evaluated in Regular Decision. Deferred students are released from their Early Decision Agreement.
- Deny: We are unable to offer you admission to UF. Your application will not receive an additional review for other admissions options.
Application Process Questions
What documents do I need to apply for Early Decision?
All required materials must be submitted by October 22, 2026. For more information about the application process and required materials, please visit admissions.ufl.edu/apply/freshman/requirements.
How can I determine my cost of attendance?
We recommend using UF's Net Price Calculator to estimate costs and aid eligibility.
Can I apply Early Decision and also apply to the Honors Program?
Yes. Early Decision applicants may also apply to the University Honors Program. The Honors essay must be completed as part of the Common Application and submitted with your application.
I have applied to a major that requires an audition through the College of the Arts. If I am not admitted into that major, is Early Decision still binding?
Yes. The University of Florida does not admit by major, so Early Decision is binding regardless of outcome through the College of the Arts audition process.
What if I change my mind and no longer want to be considered for Early Decision?
To change your Early Decision application, a formal request to change must be submitted via email to freshman@ufl.edu no later than December 10th at 5:00 PM EST.
Post-Application Questions
I was admitted in Early Decision. What are my next steps?
If admitted in Early Decision, you must confirm your enrollment by submitting your $200 or have an application fee waiver on file by January 8, 2026. Additionally, you must withdraw all applications from other universities to which you applied. If you do not confirm your enrollment by the Early Decision confirmation deadline, your admissions decision will be cancelled.
Will students admitted in Early Decision have early access to housing selection or Preview registration?
No. Admitted students will be notified about Housing and Preview when registration opens.
When can an admitted student visit campus?
Admitted students will be invited to visit campus through events designed specifically for admitted students. Please check your email and Gator Portal to register for upcoming admitted student events.
I was admitted through Early Decision. Can I request to be released from the Early Decision agreement?
Requests to be released from the binding Early Decision agreement must be submitted via email to freshman@ufl.edu for consideration on a case-by-case basis.
